Dr. Joseph A. Wilson installed your braces to realign your teeth for a healthier mouth and an even smile. While your braces are durable, they are not impervious to damage and will require some basic daily care.

There are certain activities, foods and bad habits which could potentially damage some part of your braces. If your braces are damaged or some piece of hardware comes loose, it will increase the number of alignment sessions and the time it takes to effectively realign your teeth.

Dr. Joseph A. Wilson offers a few basic first aid tips to help you take care of damaged braces.

When Dr. Joseph A. Wilson originally installed your braces, you were given you a piece of special orthodontic wax. If a loose bracket, band or broken wire is poking into your cheek or gums, you should try to secure it inside the orthodontic wax. If you don’t have the wax handy, you can improvise with a pencil eraser.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that spacers can sometimes come loose or fall out shortly before a scheduled adjustment session. Should this happen, you should call Dr. Joseph A. Wilson at your earliest convenience to have it addressed. Most likely he will simply recommend that you come in for an earlier adjustment.

If any part of your braces is damaged, you need to call Dr. Joseph A. Wilson’s office in Farmington, New Mexico at (505) 325-8858 to schedule an appointment.
