The ceramic braces fitted by Orthodontics, Inc. are very similar traditional wire and bracket braces, except the hardware has been coated with a porcelain-ceramic material that has been shaded to closely match to your tooth enamel. If any part of your braces is bent, or broken or you develop tooth decay problems on multiple teeth it could very well increase the amount of time you need to wear the braces.
It’s important that you maintain your daily oral hygiene routine or brushing and flossing twice each day. Routinely removing food particles and plaque from between your teeth and the braces will help to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. A water jet or interdental brushes can help you clean reach places
You might also want to be careful about consuming dark foods and beverages that could stain your teeth. Your natural tooth enamel will stain faster and deeper than the ceramic material coating the braces. If you do want to enjoy dark beverages, you might want to dry drinking these beverages through a straw, or brushing your teeth shortly after consuming them. Tobacco use can quickly and deeply stain your teeth.
If your teeth do start to develop some staining issues you should avoid using teeth whitening products. While they will brighten the exposed parts of your teeth, the tooth enamel under the brackets will no longer match, once your braces are removed.
Chewing gum and eating sticky foods can easily get stuck in the wires and bands causing damage or even breaking something loose. The same threat is posed by eating crunchy foods, hard candy and chewing on things like pens, pencils and ice.
