Are you aligning your smile with braces? If so, you need to take good care of your teeth, gums and appliance. The more you care for these things, the more success you can have during your orthodontic journey. As you may already know, oral hygiene is vital. So, it’s important to keep up on oral hygiene regularly. To help you, our orthodontists, Drs. Cowley and Wilson, are happy to share some of the oral hygiene rules with you, which are:

-Brush often: It’s very important to brush after each time you eat. This is because it can remove the food particles that are stuck in your appliance and around your teeth. This can help you avoid dental and orthodontic issues as well as embarrassing food-stuck-in-the-smile moments.

-Use interdental brushes: Interdental brushes help you clean the small areas of the appliance that the toothbrush can’t reach. Make sure to use interdental brushes often.

-Floss regularly: Make sure to floss at least once a day. If you can floss more, do it. This can help you remove food particles and plaque from between your teeth and around your braces.

-Rinse your mouth daily: Make sure to use antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash to rinse. These products can help you clean the mouth, strengthen the teeth or remove plaque and bacteria from the smile.
