Apprehensive About Wearing Braces? Don’t Be!

It’s natural to be a bit nervous if you’re about to get braces. Many people feel trepidation about the unknown. “Do braces hurt?” is a question that future orthodontic patients often ask. The office of Orthodontics, Inc. wants to calm or eliminate your concerns by telling you what to expect throughout the process.

Orthodontics, Inc.’s priority is to provide excellent orthodontic healthcare that best suits your needs. Our knowledgeable and caring professionals make sure you can enjoy attractive and well-functioning teeth. You can be certain that your oral health is in the best of hands.

You should feel no discomfort when an orthodontist puts braces on your teeth. Nonetheless, tell him (or her) if you’re experiencing any soreness. It should take him 90 minutes to two hours to apply them. When you leave his office, you should be able to easily continue with your day.

For the next few days, while you’re getting used to your braces, it’s best to stick to soft foods that require little or no chewing. Helpful hint: Have things such as mashed potatoes, soups, yogurt, protein shakes, applesauce and pasta already on hand before that first appointment.

It will take a few days for you to get used to the braces’ gentle pressure on your teeth. You might feel some discomfort because the appliance has started to do its job.

You’ll visit the orthodontist periodically (typically every six to 10 weeks) so he can adjust the braces so they continue to move your teeth moving into their desired positions. Adjustments can come with a bit of soreness for up to three days after.

While you’re wearing your braces, always “keep your eyes on the prize.” After the orthodontist removes your braces, you’ll have a stunning smile that you’ll be proud to show off for the rest of your life.

We at the office of Orthodontics, Inc. use a variety of techniques and appliances that are at the forefront of orthodontic care. These improvements offer a wide variety of benefits to each patient. Our top priority is to provide dental solutions that best suit your needs. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for an appointment.
