Braces Explained in 5 Easy Steps

When it comes to straightening teeth and aligning the jaw to create a healthy, comfortable and radiant smile, braces remain the most common orthodontic treatment option for most patients. In fact, some four million people in the U.S. are wearing some form of braces — with adults comprising a full 25 percent of those.

Our orthodontist at Ortho Inc. has the expertise, technology and materials to provide this treatment option quickly and comfortably. Still, we understand that our patients and their family members may experience some anxiety when preparing to receive braces. So we’d like to break the process down, step by step, to alleviate any uneasiness.

Step 1: The consultation: We’ll perform a comprehensive examination of your teeth and jaws, including X-rays and potentially other images, and discuss your options.

Step 2: Your path to a beautiful smile begins! During this pain-free process, our orthodontist attaches brackets and bands to your teeth through a bonding procedure. Then the archwires responsible for shifting the teeth are put in place, and elastic bands are attached to apply additional pressure. We’ll also go over tips for adjusting to and caring for your braces.

Step 3: Adjustments: Our orthodontist will want to periodically check the progress and make adjustments to your braces. Following a robust oral hygiene routine, plus avoiding sweets and sticky foods and beverages will help determine how long your treatment period lasts.

Step 4: The big day! The archwires and brackets are comfortably removed and your teeth are polished. You’ll get your first look at your new smile!

Step 5: The retainer: To keep those pearly whites in their perfect positions, you’ll be fitted for a retainer, and given instructions on its use.

When it comes to creating beautiful, healthy smiles, our orthodontist at Ortho Inc. makes the process easy and effective. The results you’ll receive from our care will make a long-lasting difference in your self-confidence and comfort. Please contact us today for a consultation!
