Damage to Your Braces Can Increase the Duration of the Realignment Process

The braces installed in your mouth by your orthodontist, Dr. Jacob Spendlove, represent a significant investment in realigning your teeth for a healthier mouth and a more appealing smile. This is accomplished through the progressive tension applied to your teeth through your routine adjustment sessions. If something is damaged, loosened or bent on your braces, it will increase the number of adjustments needed and the time it takes to achieve your ideal smile.

In a situation like this, you should call Orthodontics, Inc. to have it repaired. In the meantime, there are a few things you can do to help prevent further complications.

When Dr. Jacob Spendlove installed your braces, you were given a piece of special orthodontic wax. If a sharp point is threatening your cheek or gums, you can secure it inside the wax to prevent further injury. If you don’t have the wax handy, you can make do in a pinch with a pencil eraser.

If a metal band comes off or is damaged, you shouldn’t attempt to adjust or repair it yourself and you need to wait for Dr. Jacob Spendlove to address it. It’s also not surprising to have a spacer feel loose or fall out shortly before your next adjustment session. If this happens, you should call our clinic to schedule an earlier appointment.

If any part of your braces in Flagstaff, Arizona, is bent or damaged, you should not delay in calling (928) 774-0881 to schedule an appointment.
