Getting and Adjusting To Your New Braces

Life is a series of adjustments, no matter how young or old we are. The same thing applies to the process of achieving a healthy, beautiful smile through the state-of-the-art treatments provided by our orthodontist at Orthodontics, Inc.. Thanks to modern technology we can deliver superior, long-lasting results more comfortably and often in less time than ever.

Of course, the process of receiving a set of braces will require some preparation and a few adjustments. Our orthodontist wants every patient to be a partner in the process, and that’s why we’ll prepare you in advance to keep you informed and comfortable throughout our treatment.

First, we’ll let you know when to schedule a check-up and cleaning with your family dentist — a practice we advise you to repeat at least every six months for the duration of our treatment.

Second, relax! Don’t expect any discomfort while our orthodontist is applying your braces. And, there are no needles involved! We’ll give you all the information you’ll need for cleaning and caring for your braces during treatment. Expect to go about your normal activities afterward.

You’ll experience some slight discomfort for the first few days with your new braces, but rinsing with warm salt water should provide enough relief. If not, try using over-the-counter pain medication.

Eating afterward is fine, but think about stocking up beforehand on a supply of foods that require very little chewing, like mashed potatoes, soup, pudding, and ice cream. When your discomfort eases and you become accustomed to your braces, you can start slowly reintroducing your normal diet, but make sure to cut the food up into small pieces and stay away from tough, chewy foods.

The adjustment period will be in the rearview mirror in no time as our orthodontist at Orthodontics, Inc. creates a healthy, radiant smile you’ll treasure for years. Please contact us today if you have any questions or want to schedule an appointment.
