Wearing Braces Requires Extra Attention to Cleaning

If it’s important to maintain excellent oral care when you don’t have braces, then it’s imperative to be meticulous about your dental hygiene when you do have braces. Taking good care of your teeth is a crucial part of undergoing orthodontic treatment. Successfully navigating cleaning utensils around brackets, wires and any other components takes dedication, patience and good observation skills.

Ortho Inc.’s state-of-the-art facility gives us the tools to treat our patients with the utmost precision. We combine our knowledge of traditional methods with advanced technology to get the best possible results. Our stellar reputation is known throughout the area.

Good oral health while wearing braces involves more than cleaning. Take these suggestions to ensure you’ll have a sparkling smile when your braces come off.

Limit foods with sugars and starches. They’re notorious for clinging to teeth and invading surfaces that are tricky to access. Sugars and starches can turn into plaque, then tartar and decay.

Use toothpaste and mouth rinse that include fluoride. It helps stave off tooth decay and can reach those tricky nooks and crannies.

If you use tobacco products, ditch them. In addition to increasing your risk of a varity of cancers, tobacco promotes gum disease and stains enamel. Imagine the thrill of getting your braces removed only to have your teeth whiter where your brackets were.

Keep up visits with your dentist. Just because you see your orthodontist once a month or so doesn’t mean he’s a substitute for your regular dentist. You still need professional cleanings twice a year. Your dentist may even recommend every four months.

Get to know your mouth and teeth, and examine them regularly. While your braces are straightening your teeth, they can also cause spots, lesions, cuts, swellings, or growths on your gums, tongue, cheeks, inside of your lips, and floor and roof of your mouth. It’s always best to catch them early so your orthodontist can address them.

At the office of Ortho Inc., we pride ourselves on our sophisticated approaches to orthodontics. Our main focus, however, is to always ensure that all of our patients feel cared for and comfortable. For complete information about our services, please don’t hesitate to call today for an appointment.
