What to expect the day your braces are removed
It’s a day you or your child has been anticipating for months. The day you get your braces removed is an exciting one, and also one that involves a step-by-step process for your next stage. Our friendly orthodontist at Orthodontics, Inc. wants all our patients to know what to expect when that day arrives.
First, try to schedule the appointment for a day when you have some time, because it’s not an in-and-out process. And, because your teeth will feel different afterward, setting some time aside, so you’re not rushing somewhere is a good idea. There is likely to be a little pressure and some sensations and sounds you’re not accustomed to as the brackets and bands are actually being removed, but the process is relatively painless. Once the brackets are gone, the adhesives our orthodontist used to secure the braces will be scraped off your teeth. This can be a little uncomfortable, but nothing to be concerned about.
Depending on your treatment, you will also be fitted for a fixed or removable retainer during this process. As we have discussed during your previous visits, wearing a retainer after having your braces removed is absolutely crucial for ensuring that your teeth don’t revert to their prior positions, especially over time as you age. We’ll go over when and how to wear and care for your retainer.
Of course, you’ll have time to enjoy a first look at your new smile, and we’ll be providing you with thorough instructions on how to protect that smile for years to come by maintaining a strong oral hygiene routine.
The day a patient has their braces removed is certainly a cause for celebration, but it’s not the end of treatment. Our orthodontist at Orthodontics, Inc. will want to schedule regular visits to ensure your teeth are settling into their new positions. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact our office!
